The Everlasting Prayer

This illustration is part of an ongoing column titled "het fantastische" which is published in the Volkskrant every week. This week's article was about the Benedictine nuns in Tegelen. This group of nuns have devoted their lives to maintaining a prayer for 24 hours a day since 1875. Even at night, at least one nun stays up to keep the prayer going by candle light.

The original drawing for this illustration was made on A3 sized Bristol board, mostly drawn with graphite, pencils and pastels. Some color was added with colored pencils and extra pastels. Then the drawing was scanned and extra color was added on the computer.
